About the course

I have big changes coming up and need to do some serious life and career planning.

So I’m taking this as an opportunity to do a deep dive into the Creative Career Design tools I’ve been creating and teaching for the past 8 years.

I’m calling this a “course” even though it’s really more of a personal deep work session that I’m inviting you to tag along with. Yes, there will be some teaching, but this is more of a coworking session where I will be using the prompts and maps I need the most right now, and inviting you to use them too.

My personal goal: make specific plans about how to increase my income and housing security in a multi-phase process, while also relaunching my musical career AND keeping my quality of life healthy.

Sound like it might help you?

What will we actually do each week?

Here’s the outline I’m currently working with:

Week 1: What needs/wants to change?

We’ll make a Possible Futures and Desired Outcome list.

We’ll discuss what we want to change one stepping stone at a time (eg. creative visions AND specific income goals across the timeline of coming years).

W2: What is my current set up?

We’ll check in on the current State of your Career/Life Design.

Deep Inventory Part 1: Dive into what you already have, and how your needs and core values are currently being met.

W3: What am I working with? What do I already have access to?

We’ll list our Strong Links and Rare ‘Resources’.

Deep Inventory Part 2:  What are your current strong links and rare ‘resources’, and how each one could tie or relate to goals from week 2.

W4: What actions could I take as part of my plan?

We’ll make a Design Change Possibilities List.

Assess new trades, and redesign trades tied to desired outcomes. (‘Trades’ here means any project or way you spend your time that exchanges any of the 8 forms of capital).

W5: What are my next projects and how can I make them healthy?

We can make Trade Maps of our proposed present and future trades to make sure we’re putting in only what we can afford, and getting back what we actually need.

W6: What do I do, in what order?

Based on all we’ve done so far, we’ll make prioritized to do lists to accomplish this and near-future phases of our career design plan.

possible W7: Revisit values and needs base map, guiding statements for sustainable + focused progress.

Please note: This outline is subject to lots of change. We’ll be going with the flow of what we actually need on any given week, and use this outline as a guide when it’s helpful. The course may be longer or shorter than this. Whatever serves me and the people who are showing up weekly.

A few more thoughts:

I’ve always tried to make my courses as accessible as possible schedule-wise. For this one, it’s happening when it’s happening, and I trust that the people who need it most will figure out how to make it to the calls.

I may record the calls, but really this is something that will make the most sense to come to live.

This is more advanced creative mapping territory than I’ve ever made available before. Some of the tools will be familiar, some will be made up each week just for this course. The work will be cumulative week to week, so it will make the most sense to come to every call.

I may teach some version of this in the future, but I’m guessing it won’t happen for at least a year. I’ve tried to make it incredibly financially accessible, and schedule friendly (in that it’s only 1.5 hrs per week, most likely with no homework since we’ll be doing the work on the calls).

This is a big experiment, but at the same time I’m confident anyone who takes it will get an enormous amount of benefit from it. I’m invested in every course I teach, but this one is especially important to me since it represents one of my own most important career transitions.

I hope this will help you and if you’ve read this far, thanks so much! Please email me with any questions or thoughts, and let me know if you’re planning to make it, and I’ll send you more info about how to sign up.
