Practice Week:
small, strategic steps to rebuild your creative career

What would it look like to design our lives one tiny step at a time?

Join Winter Practice Week and discover what you can shift in just 15 minutes a day.

Practice Sessions are mini-workshops driven by a single Creative Mapping prompt: a single question, a list, a map. In just 15 minutes, you will gain the perspective you need to take one small step forward in your main project, relational landscape, job, business, or more.

Think about it like this: you can learn a lot from a one-off session with a great personal trainer, but the real progress comes from your daily workout.

This is your daily Creative Mapping workout.

My mind is continually blown by how much insight I can get out of one of these little 15-min practices.
— Seonaid Lee, embodiment coach

Practice Sessions, Explained:

Why 15 minutes?

It’s like a brain steamer. Every 15 minutes we’re working on smoothing out a section of my brain.
— Sarah

In Atomic Habits, James Clear talks about a photography professor who divided his students into two groups on the first day. One group would be graded on the quality of just one photo taken all semester, and the other group on quantity of photos. At the end of the semester, the highest quality photos all came from the quantity group.

A practice that takes tiny but regular steps is often a surprisingly expeditious way of moving forward.

I recently tried to write one tiny song every day (yes, I'm into tiny houses, and tiny songs, and carving tiny spoons... I'm sure we could Values Map the reason for this). The rules: spend less than 10 minutes writing, and the song length has to be under 60 seconds. Because of this practice, I wrote songs that otherwise would have never existed. And the (snobby) perfectionist songwriter in me was humbled by how good some of them were.

What Practice Sessions are:

  • A series of very short sessions (~15 min), in an ongoing practice (~10-100 years)

  • A group call on Zoom led by Chris

  • Bite-sized: one single prompt, map, or tool at a time

  • A chance to try to learn one small thing about yourself, your project, or your ecosystem

  • An experiment: the tools are tried and true, the format has never been attempted

  • A beta test: this means that there may be inefficiencies, glitches, unforeseen complications, and (hopefully) unexpected inspirations. I will be grateful for your feedback throughout the sessions.

What Practice Sessions are not:

  • A full intro to Creative Mapping

  • A course that you have to attend all of (come to one or some or all in any combination)

  • An in-depth training or workshop (Check back here in a few weeks to sign up for one.)

  • A one-on-one call (I offer those too occasionally, book here)

  • A Q&A or a chance to have a long conversation (some sessions will have space for short questions)

  • A quick fix, magic bullet (this is meant to be one step in a longer journey that takes regular work)
